Coaching Trials

Football trials offer young players an incredible chance to showcase their talent, develop new skills, and gain valuable exposure in a professional setting.

Football trials provide a chance for players to display their abilities and begin a path to a professional football career. They focus on evaluating a player’s technical expertise, tactical knowledge, physical conditioning, and overall potential to secure a spot in an advanced training program.

Our upcoming trial days

Registration and Welcome

Arrival and Check-In: Players will need to arrive early to sign in, receive any trial materials (like a number or kit), and be briefed on the schedule.

Welcome and Introduction: Coaches will introduce themselves, explain the goals of the trial day, and outline the schedule. This is also a chance for players to ask questions and understand the structure.

Warm-Up and Fitness Assessment

Group Warm-Up: Players will participate in a group warm-up to get their muscles ready for the trials.

Fitness Testing: sprints, agility drills, endurance tests, or specific conditioning exercises to assess athleticism.

Skill Drills

Technical Drills: Players will engage in various skill-based exercises, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control.

Small-Sided Games: Players will likely be grouped into teams for small-sided games (e.g., 5v5 or 7v7). These games allow coaches to observe players in a match environment, focusing on their understanding of the game, teamwork, communication, and individual skills.

What to expect at trials

Full-Scale Match

Match Play:  Players can showcase their abilities in a more competitive, game-like setting. Coaches look for how players perform under pressure, their tactical awareness, and ability to work as part of a team.

Player Evaluation: During these games, coaches will be observing each player’s decision-making, technical skills, tactical awareness, and overall attitude. They’ll also pay attention to how players react to different situations on the field, such as handling pressure, demonstrating leadership, and working as part of a team.

Evaluation and Feedback

Individual Feedback: After the trial day, players may receive feedback on their performance, strengths, and areas for improvement via email.

Selection: Players who perform well may be invited to join PSOE. Others might be encouraged to return for future trials or provided with resources to improve their skills.

What to bring on the day

Football Kit

Comfortable playing gear, including boots, shin guards, and weather-appropriate clothing (jersey, shorts, socks).

Water and Snacks

Staying hydrated is important, so bring a water bottle. If the trials are long, a snack may be useful.

Positive Attitude

Confidence, determination, and a willingness to learn and take feedback are essential for making a strong impression.
